Visa & Information
Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu is the primary international airport of Nepal and the most commonly used entry point for international travelers. The Immigration Office at TIA, under the Department of Immigration, facilitates tourists flying to Nepal by providing Tourist Visas on Arrival. The Visa on Arrival procedure is generally quick and simple, although you may experience queues during peak tourist seasons.
In addition to TIA, Visa on Arrival services may also be available at other designated international airports and selected land border entry points, depending on current immigration operations. If you wish to avoid airport queues, you may also consider obtaining a visa in advance from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions stationed abroad before your arrival. The choice is yours.
If you have obtained a visa from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions, you must enter Nepal within six months of the visa issue date. Your total length of stay is counted from the day you enter Nepal.
Visas obtained on Arrival at entry and exit points are Tourist Visas. These visas allow multiple re-entries. A Tourist Visa on Arrival is the standard entry visa for Nepal. If you are visiting Nepal for purposes other than tourism (such as sightseeing, tours, trekking, mountaineering, or visiting friends and family), you must still enter Nepal on a Tourist Visa.
However, if your purpose or length of stay changes, you are required to change the visa category through the Department of Immigration by submitting the required documents.
